Hacked!

No clue what’s happened, but I’m locked out of Facebook for the next 24 hours while they verify my identity

Oh bother.

Thanks to Meta’s wonderful app integration, something with the crankycrowe Instagram and my original Instagram went so haywire that resetting one forgotten password has resulted in my having uninstalled and reinstalled both apps multiple times, reset multiple passwords, managed to get email, 2 apps and 3 accounts confused with each other.

End result: passwords reset, but account locked until “they” verify my identity. Anyone else do this before? I have a shocker for you: tighter requirements for photo ID than is needed to vote in Canada.

And Voter ID is way down the approved list that starts with FB taking pictures of your choice of passport, visa, driver’s license, treaty/status ID, and travels down the list. Before you do that, though, read the blurb that tells you what they do with it.

They will keep and use that photo for the next year, specifically, for *ahem* improving its facial recognition software to enhance security, blah blah blah, and of course will be shared with security partners (no way to find out who those might be; you are giving them carte blanche.

Opt out of that, and it is only kept for 30 days.

I’m not going down this particular hole right now. No worries.
