Yes, sadly it’s true. My eagerness and excitement and need to experiment and tinker has had an unfortunate side effect.

Between running out of space in the plant room and the ever-warming spring creeping up on us, I’ve ‘jumped the gun’, so to speak, and tried a few ways to get some of the tomatoes and peppers out to the greenhouse sooner.
This has had mixed results- but I’m learning as I go, I was aware of the risks, thought I’d taken steps, but I’ll just have to be patient for now, I suppose. But there have been multiple casualties- a backyard serial killer, I am.

In the meantime, over the past couple of days, my process has had me working on mental exercises (sorting out what happened and what my responses to it were and meant) while doing the physical- resulting in some firmer plans for the yard and greenhouse, 2 planters of onions in, and some interesting discoveries in last year’s onion patch.

The onion bed I tried last year didn’t work so well, and ended up being left as is over winter. Weeks ago I noticed fresh green shoots from some of them- so we will see what they do, and I’ll keep adding onion and garlic bulbs for a bit to fill and hopefully provide a steady stream of fresh, while leaving enough older stuff for storage after harvest.
So we shall see where this goes, it’s all experimenting; I’m just winging it here anyhow. But it’s fun, it’s rewarding, and it gives a sense of getting stuff done while sorting out my thoughts, and in the end I’ll get to eat and share with friends and family at least a bit of the fruits of our labours.
Take care, stay safe, no worries.
