I’m a VICTIM…

…of my own success. In an earlier blog, “Im a Murderer!” ( https://thecrankycrowe.ca/2022/04/27/im-a-murderer/) I “showed off” my experimental efforts in the greenhouse.  Today I need to take care of the jungle that the ‘plant room’ (for anyone wondering, no, it isn’t a grow op) has turned into, so I’ll share some of the successes (and fails) in here from January until now.

Those greenhouse experiments are partly a byproduct of just running out of space!

I’ll admit to have been busy enough I’ve been unkind to the Komodo peppers; they need a LOT more water than I’d been noticing!

Poor thing… Note to self: pay attention!

We’ve had our first taste of fresh tomatoes this week! *DISCLAIMER* I may have accidentally on purpose broken off a cluster last week, so I did make sure to have a breakfast of eggs and fried green tomatoes.

Almost ready! A bit soft as they are slower than outdoor tomatoes, but super juicy, and sweet! These are Silver Fir Determinate tomatoes, iirc. Maybe Siberian…

The peppers are going gangbusters! As soon as I start seeing overnight Temps consistently above, say, -5°C outdoors, we’ll need to get these to the greenhouse- they still have all summer to grow.

The first person local that can guess the closest answer as to how many peppers are on this Cayenne may have their pick of a currant, blackberry or raspberry cutting I have ready.
Jalapeño!
The Hungarian Hot Wax and Cayenne peppers are proving to be super easy to grow! But with success…
Sooooo many tomaters!
Even separating these is gonna be a chore…

….comes learning opportunities. The Komodo, Ancho and Ghost peppers all have had lower sprouting and survival results, as was kind of expected, but we’re learning, and these can be ‘fixed up’ without doing much harm.

A second Komodo illustrating to me how blossom end rot happens- same as for tomatoes

So that’s it for now, some very leggy tomatoes that need to be transplanted ASAP, stay tuned, follow along, no worries!
